According to researchers, nearly half of the Twitter accounts spreading COVID-19 misinformation are fake accounts ran by bots.

Since January, more than 200 million tweets are in the public domain addressing the coronavirus, says this article by CBS.

45% of these tweets are by computerized robot accounts, according to researchers.

 “We do know that it looks like it’s a propaganda machine, and it definitely matches the Russian and Chinese playbooks, but it would take a tremendous amount of resources to substantiate that”, says Kathleen Carley, a professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon University, as quoted by NPR.
