Conspiracy theories claim that 5G mobile network technology is responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic. This false theory circulates mainly through social media networks.

These false claims have resulted in the vandalization of 5G towers. It also led to arson attacks on infrastructure. Maintenance workers were also assaulted, according to this article by Reuters.

Viruses cannot travel on mobile networks or radio waves, according to the WHO as quoted by Reuters.

The European Commission has also rejected the claims, according to the news article.

“I’m absolutely outraged, absolutely disgusted, that people would be taking action against the very infrastructure that we need to respond to this health emergency,”

“It is absolute and utter rubbish.”
