A 51-year-old man dug up, then attempted to have sex with the dead body of a 14-year-old girl, according to India Today.
The incident took place in Dhemaji’s district of Assam, India, says the article. The girl had died under mysterious circumstances on May 17. Family members had buried her along the Simen River.
On 18 May in the afternoon, a local fisherman noticed a person who had dug up the grave and was having his way with the teenager’s corpse. The local fisherman caught the suspect and handed him to the police, according to the article.
The Hindustan Times quotes the police saying : “Some have alleged that he might have sexually harassed the minor that led her to commit suicide”. The same policeman says that the accused, Akan Saikia, 51 years old, confessed to his crime and is now now behind the bars.
Still according to The Hindustan Times, he was released on parole in end-March following a Supreme Court order to decongest jails due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) outbreak.
