An Iranian 14-year-old girl was beheaded by her father with farming sickle. The incident has sparked the nationwide outcry in Iran.
Reza Ashrafi, beheaded his daughter Romina while she was sleeping. The incident is considered an “honor killing”.
Ashrafi expressed outrage as her daughter ran away with a 34-year-old man called Bahamn Khavari to Talesh, some 320 km (198 miles) northwest of the capital, Tehran, according to reports by the AP.
Later, both of the man’s family and Ashrafi contacted the authorities. Security forces found the couple after five days.
When Romina was given back to her father from the hands of the police, she reportedly said that she feared for her life, according to the Daily Mail.
He beheaded her that very night. He then surrendered to the authorities and confessed, according to the news article.
“Every year in Iran, women, and girls are killed by their male relatives under the guise of defending their honor, but the nature of Romina Ashrafi’s murder is one that has shocked the country and the rest of the world.”
