Eduardo David Ramos presented the profile of a simple barber. He hid a much darker reality. This man performed clandestine cosmetic surgeries. Police recently arrested him in Maracay (~100 km west of Caracas), Venezuela. He was trying to escape Colombian justice.

A 52-year-old woman crossed his path. Her name was Yulixa Toloza. She lost her life in atrocious circumstances. She wanted to undergo a laser liposuction. She went to the “Beauty Láser” clinic in Bogota. This establishment operated under the cover of an ordinary hair salon.

Ramos possessed no medical qualifications. He nonetheless handled scalpels and anesthetics. Investigators suspect the use of ketamine. The procedure turned into a nightmare. The patient likely succumbed to a drug overdose. Excessive fat extraction could also explain her death.

Security cameras filmed the macabre aftermath. Ramos and a female accomplice carried the victim’s body out of the building. Yulixa Toloza appeared already dead or in a coma. They dumped her corpse in an isolated wooded area. This location sits between the municipalities of Apulo and Anapoima (~80 km southwest of Bogota).

The presumed murderer planned his escape with absolute coldness. He booked a ride on the DiDi application (a ride-sharing app similar to Uber). The driver picked him up at 4:15 AM. He dropped him off at the El Dorado airport (Bogota’s main international airport). Ramos then crossed the border to seek refuge in his native country.

The owner of the salon is named María Fernanda Delgado Hernández. Authorities also arrested her. She will face complicity charges before the courts.

“This charlatan operated with total disregard for the lives of his victims,” stated a judicial police officer during a press briefing on May 20. Ramos will face justice.

This case exposes the flaws of sanitary inspection in Bogota. Officials struggle to control small businesses. Beauty salons often escape thorough verification. Clients ignore the deadly danger hidden behind these storefronts. Attractive prices erase natural suspicion. Social networks often serve as a promotional window for these scammers. They publish misleading photos. They thus attract a vulnerable clientele.

The Colombian government promises firmer measures. Current laws do not deter these criminals. The extradition of Ramos to Colombia constitutes the next judicial step. The investigation continues to identify other potential victims.
